Here each team will kill the opposing team and minions and monsters around the map, gaining gold to buy items. The main objective of the game it to destroy towers guarding the enemy’s base and then destroy the enemy’s base called the nexus to win the game.

First the sixteen teams will be put into four groups with four teams in each called the “group stage”. Here each team will play against every other team in their group twice. The top two teams from each group will move on into the “Knockout stage” and the last two teams of the groups will be eliminated. During the Knockout stage the remaining eight teams will compete in a single elimination tournament bracket. These eight teams will play each other in a best of five match. The winner of each best of five moves on to the semifinals, while the losers are eliminated. Finally on October 31st the final two teams will battle in Berlin, Germany to become the World Champions.

The 16 teams are split by region they are in, these teams are SKTelecom T1, KOO Tigers and KT Rolster from Korea, LGD Gaming, Edward Gaming and Invictus Gaming from China, ahq e-Sports Club and Flash Wolves from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, Counter Logic Gaming, Team SoloMid and Cloud9 from the US, Fnatic, H2K and Origen from Europe and two Wildcard Qualifiers the Bangkok Titans and paiN Gaming.
