App Review: Notability
February 15, 2016
With the second half of the school year in full swing, many of us are still trying to stick to our New Year’s resolutions and stay organized. At this point it may seem literally impossible to stay committed for some as the workload keeps increasing. Luckily though in this article we will be looking at a app called Notability, a fantastic app for iOS and Mac devices that keeps all your notes and documents in one place, and personally out beats OneNote and Evernote.
While in the app store for a while now, Notability has many features to help you stay on point. The main one, at least for me, is handwriting. Sure you can type out your notes on a device, but what happens when you get to math class? Notability allowed me to use a device in every class by its zoom-in handwriting feature. When you click on the bottom-right corner a zoomed-in rectangle will appear. This allows the device to recognize palm- rest and for you to write at a size normal to you. In addition since it is zoomed in, you can write with ease instead of zooming in and hoping that your penmanship is better than your doctors like on OneNote mobile.
In terms of longevity, Notability has practically endless storage with long-term note-taking in mind, unlike Evernote where short, quick notes are more common, from my time using it. In addition I have my notes backed up to my email where the app creates save files there in case of an emergency. Need to send your notes to a pal? The app allows you to send them as a PDF or print them wirelessly from your device. Editing with a team? Those with the app can receive your notes and make changes or side notes in a verbal or written fashion. Lastly, it terms of aesthetics, you can change the paper to multiple types of color and designs and overall the app seems very clean and well-thought out.
So we get to the big question, is it worth it? In my personal experience, this app is a masterpiece and destroys the note-taking program competition. Although it does cost $5.99, your investment will be well-worth it. Notability is easy to use, has a fresh look, and will get the job done no matter what.
