Teacher Feature: Mr. Tyrol–A Religious Leader

Mr. Tyrol elaborates on how his faith and childhood inspired him to the faith-based teaching profession.

Mr. Tyrol grew up in Waterford, Connecticut with his mother, father, and brother. He and his brother went to a small private school that ran from Kindergarten to twelfth grade at the Baptist Bible Academy. While at his school, Mr. Tyrol was a member of the soccer team and played sweeper and half-back. Not only did he play soccer, he also was a track star. He won many races such as the 50 yard dash, the 100 yard dash, the 200 yard sprint, and the 400 yard relay. He also enjoyed going to see the Hartford Whalers with his family.

As Mr. Tyrol grew up he had several jobs. His first job was when he worked at Scott’s Orchard. Later he would work at JCPenny in sales at the fine jewelry and men’s department. Later in his life Mr. Tyrol got a job as assistant principal at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea in New London and in 2007 joined the Xavier family working in the religion department. In total, Mr. Tyrol has been teaching for 21 years!

Now, Mr. Tyrol lives with his two Staffordshire terriers , Bugsy and Cleo, and loves taking them beach, especially in Waterford. In addition to working at Xavier, Mr. Tyrol has a strong passion for music. He plays the piano for churches over the weekend and even taught many students prior to coming to Xavier. Lastly, Mr. Tyrol played all kinds of instruments in college, his primary instruments being vocal and the piano.
