1,345 Days, 32,280 hours, 1,936,800 minutes, 116,208,000 seconds. That was the amount of time from the first day of school, all the way through today, where I walk the stage in a matter of days, officially ending my time as a student at Xavier and entering the illustrious company of alumni. I know that when I step onto the Quinnipiac University campus for the first time as a student, I’ll be ready for what’s to come. For that I have Xavier to thank.
Xavier has changed my life in more ways than I can count. The friends I’ve made along the way, the teachers who taught me that there is more to life than what is in the classroom, and the lessons I’ve learned have truly made their mark on me as a person and as student. I am forever grateful for everyone at Xavier who has come into my life and made an impression on me.
Having now gone through all of what Xavier has to offer, I want to speak to the current students reading this.
Do not be afraid to take leaps and make mistakes. There were a lot of one-off events that happened during my time here that I really wish I attended but didn’t. Junior retreat? Go to it. XLI? Go to it. A club peaks your interest? Attend it! You truly don’t know what you’re interested in and what’s your calling until you try new things.
High school doesn’t promise to be easy. But there is a long list of people who you know and don’t know who would be willing to help you in a heartbeat. Use them if you need them.
No matter where you are in your journey, remember that growth often comes from the moments you least expect. Cherish the friendships you form, the lessons you learn both inside and outside the classroom, and the memories you create along the way. These experiences will shape you into the person you are meant to become.
Reflecting on my time at Xavier, I’ve come to realize that it’s not just the big milestones that define our high school experience, but also the little moments in between. The spontaneous laughter with friends, the late-night study sessions, the small victories in the classroom, these are the threads that weave together the fabric of our memories. Don’t overlook these seemingly insignificant instances because, in the end, they hold more value than you might think.
Also, never underestimate the power of gratitude. Taking a moment to thank a teacher who inspired you, a friend who supported you, or even acknowledging your own hard work can be incredibly fulfilling. Gratitude helps us stay grounded, appreciate our journey, and motivates us to keep pushing forward with a positive mindset.
As you move forward, whether it’s tackling your next big assignment, preparing for college, or simply navigating the day-to-day challenges of high school, stay true to yourself. Lean on your support system, embrace the opportunities presented to you, and never underestimate your own resilience. Your future is bright, and the path you pave now will lead you to incredible destinations.
So, as you stand on the brink of your own next chapter, remember this: You can do it. Every challenge you face is an opportunity to grow, and every step you take is a stride toward becoming the best version of yourself. Keep your head high, your heart open, and your spirit unyielding, because the best is yet to come.
