The Winter Storm of 2026 has just hit recently this past weekend and has had an enormous impact on the US. There have been thousands of flight cancellations, school closures, and many roads are packed with snow, impacting travel and millions of lives. The storm has hit a vast range between New Mexico and Maine, and has affected around 200 million people. There were even warnings of trees imploding in the upper parts of the US due to extreme cold weather. In CT, there was an estimated average 19 inches of snow, New Mexico had the most amount of snow (31 inches), and Tennessee had the least amount of snow (5 inches).
The snow will continue its final cycles throughout the week in New England, and many people all over the country are left without power. The storm is nearing its end; the snow, rain, and ice are ending soon, but its effects are not. There has been a loss of life because of the storm (30 deaths). There was panic caused throughout CT as many people were planning to stay home, and food was being bought throughout the states. Also, the governor of CT called for a state of emergency, which means people are meant to stay home and off the roads so workers can clear the roads of snow. Many cities and states across North America broke their record of snowfall, such as Toronto which had a record of 19 inches of snow and was broken after it got 22 inches of snow this past weekend.
Overall, this snowstorm has affected many people over the past weekend and will have lasting effects on the US for weeks to come, for example airports and schools are just getting back up to speed. This storm is clearly running for one of the largest and lasting winter storms in the US.
