As the postseason begins, the Xavier High School lacrosse team finds itself exactly where every program hopes to be in June: playing its best lacrosse of the season. Through hard work, resilience, and strong leadership, the Falcons have put together an impressive campaign filled with signature victories, standout performances, and a growing belief that they can make a deep run in the state tournament.
Among the highlights of the season were statement wins over Lyman Hall and Hall, two victories that showcased the team’s talent and determination. Against Lyman Hall, Xavier displayed its ability to control the tempo and execute in crucial moments, while the win over Hall demonstrated the Falcons’ toughness and ability to rise to the occasion against quality competition. Those victories helped build momentum throughout the season and proved that Xavier could compete with some of the state’s top programs.
A major reason for Xavier’s success has been the leadership provided by captains Tim and Sean Zdrojeski, Isaac Castano, and Luke Beasley. Their impact extends far beyond the scoresheet. Throughout the season, they have set the tone with their work ethic, accountability, and commitment to the team-first culture that has become a hallmark of Xavier lacrosse. Whether it was leading practices, motivating teammates during difficult stretches, or delivering in key moments on game day, the captains have been instrumental in guiding the Falcons through a demanding schedule.
The Zdrojeski twins, Tim and Sean, have been especially important leaders for the program. Their experience and competitive drive have helped elevate the team’s play all season long. Alongside Castano and Beasley, they have created a veteran core that younger players have been able to rally around as the postseason approaches.
One of the most memorable performances of the year came in Xavier’s matchup against Simsbury. Goalie Chase Dinunzio delivered a performance that will be remembered by Falcon fans for years to come, recording more than 20 saves against one of the state’s most dangerous offenses. Time and time again, Dinunzio came up with clutch stops, frustrating Simsbury attackers and keeping Xavier in position to compete throughout the game. His performance demonstrated not only his talent but also the confidence and poise that have made him one of the team’s most valuable players this season.
While veteran leadership has driven the team, Xavier has also benefited from the emergence of younger contributors. Sophomore Nate Gaydos has become a key offensive weapon and has shown maturity beyond his years. His ability to create scoring opportunities and make plays in critical situations has added another dimension to the Falcons’ attack. As the postseason begins, Gaydos gives Xavier an exciting young presence capable of changing a game at any moment.
Now, all attention turns to the state tournament. Xavier enters the postseason with confidence, momentum, and a belief that its best lacrosse is still ahead. The Falcons will take on St. Joseph on Wednesday in what promises to be a highly competitive matchup. Led by sophomore standout Nate Gaydos and senior twins Tim and Sean Zdrojeski, Xavier is embracing the challenge ahead.
The road to a championship is never easy, but this year’s Falcons have shown they possess the leadership, talent, and determination necessary to compete with anyone. From signature wins over Lyman Hall and Hall, to Chase Dinunzio’s unforgettable performance against Simsbury, to the leadership provided by the team’s captains, Xavier has built a season worth celebrating. Now, with the state tournament beginning, the Falcons have an opportunity to add another chapter to what a memorable year it has already been.
If they continue to play with the same energy, discipline, and confidence that carried them throughout the regular season, Xavier will be a team no one wants to face in June.
